MITZPE
RAMON
Description
This is probably one of the most beautiful places in Israel.
The crater is huge and gorgeous, you can view it from the many lookouts along the rim and drive down into it there are many trails to hike and roads to take.
You can go to the visitor center (it costs) and learn about first (and only) Israeli astronaut ilan Ramon, and the geological history of the crater which is the biggest of it's kind in the world.
the place is also considered one of the best in the world to go star gazing, you can go yourself or get a tour with a professional guide either way it will be an unforgettable experience trust me!
All over the place and even in the yishuv itself you can see wild ibex roaming around freely and it's pretty cool!
In the yishuv there is also bio ramon a tiny zoo with a few small animals (not recommended) and also a lama farm (I've never been there)
Getting there
head south on the 6 (it's free) to the 40 and follow it all the way there.
Travel time is over 2 hours.
Trail
There are many trails you can try pick up a map at the visitor center and ask them for help in choosing a trail that works for you.
You can drive into the crater and there are places to park down there
Note: there is a road off the main road down in the crater that leads to various sites and to the campground however if you put the campground into waze it won't take you that way, instead the'll take you on a long dirt road, so make sure not to listen to them and take the paved road.
